Our History

Two brothers, Dionicio and Hector Perez, migrated from Guanajuato, Mexico, to Houston, Texas, in the early 80’s in hopes of achieving the American dream and making a better future for themselves and their family.  As soon as they arrived they began working in the restaurant industry; Dionicio as a line cook and Hector as a busboy and waiter.  As the years passed and upon learning the ins and outs of running a restaurant, their dream of opening their own place one day began. After 21 years of saving and lots of hard work they were finally able to live their dream.  

On March 31, 2001 the brothers opened San Lorenzo Mexican Restaurant and Cantina at a small location off of South Shore Boulevard.  As soon as the doors opened for the first time, the restaurant was a huge success.  People were waiting in line up to two hours to eat in the place with a tree in the middle.  Then, four years later, following their great success, they expanded to a location double the size of the first, just two blocks away.  

San Lorenzo Mexican Restaurant and Cantina is family owned and operated, specializing in delicious Tex-Mex food and the best margaritas in Bay Area Houston.  When you come to our restaurant, you instantly become a part of the family and want to come back for more of our award winning margaritas and delicious food over and over again.   

We thank our customers for their continual support these past 10 years; without it we would not be open today.  And for those of you we have not had the pleasure of serving, we hope you will give us a try.  From a variety of options on our daily menu to daily specials and happy hour from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., you can’t go wrong.  We hope to see you soon, so you too can become a part of the San Lorenzo family!
